Leave a Legacy

This week we had the memorial service for Kirk Olney. He was a wonderful man of God, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and long time elder of Madison Christian Church. You could see the legacy that was left with his wonderful family there, friends from all over the place, and a church that he helped to start. It is okay for us to be sad that he has passed. It is okay to be glad that he is no longer in pain. But it is not okay to forget why he has such a wonderful legacy.

Kirk Olney loved Jesus. He allowed that love for Jesus to influence all of his subsequent decisions. How he treated his family, how he worked at his job, and how he served the Lord and the church. This Sunday, we will look at Matthew 5:13-16, where Jesus tells believers that we are salt and light for our family and the world. Kirk knew what it meant to “let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” When our time on this earth is over, let’s make sure that the same thing can be said of us.

Matthew 5:13-16, “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.

¹⁴ “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. ¹⁵ Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. ¹⁶ In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
