Happy Arctic Solstice

Imagine my surprise when I saw the print advertisement for a well-know national retailer touting “Arctic Solstice Gifts.” Have you watched the strained attempts of news anchors and reporters to carefully avoid using the term Christmas? Clerks in stores and servers in restaurants are reluctant to mention Christmas, settling for “Happy Holidays” or “Season’s Greetings.”

Let’s be determined not to be shy about our Savior’s birth. We need to be proud that Jesus was born in a manger in Bethlehem, that that he came to save us from our sins. Christmas is about the Infinite becoming an infant.

Rather than getting all bent out of shape about people’s terminology at this time of year – let’s act authentically Christian. Let’s share the good news of Christ’s love. Let’s allow people to see Christ in us as we serve, give, and love one another. We may just find that the saying I saw on a sign the other day is exactly true, “It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air.” Merry Christmas to all!
