As we begin a new year, I wanted to offer you some wisdom shared with me by Tony Raffa over the last couple of days. You could pay a counselor $200 an hour to get this wisdom, or you can take it for free from Tony’s years of experience as a pastor.
First, A PERSONAL CHECKLIST TO CONSIDER IN 2019 which Tony gave to his ABF Class on Sunday morning. Avoid an unteachable spirit. Here is what Tony says is evidence of an unteachable spirit:
-Don’t read – this will increase one’s learning and grasp of living for the Lord.
-Don’t take notes – fail to jot down beneficial information pertaining to life and living.
-Don’t seek or accept counsel – refuse advice for personal guidance.
-Don’t listen – be self-absorbed and have little respect or regard for others. – Talk, talk, talk, be opinionated.
-Don’t take criticism – resist correction – consider reaction, resentment, or retaliation.
-Don’t desire or pursue change – resist change. Don’t leave your comfort zone, “my way or the highway.”
-Don’t follow directions – look for short cuts, the easy way, the most familiar way.
-Don’t accept responsibility – blame anyone and everyone else for mistakes, justify your actions.
-Don’t pursue responsibility, in fact, avoid it – Flee commitment, responsibility, accountability.
-Don’t enjoy accountability – don’t face the facts, excuse everything.
Obviously, the above things are a pathway to misery.
This morning Tony shared with me an insight in approaching the new year which is both comforting and refreshing:
As we approach the New Year with its Blessings and challenges
May We never be afraid to commit the unknown
to our God who is all knowing
Who knows the future, beginning to end.
HAVE A GREAT 2019!!!
