Thankfulness

Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching and our kids are watching and learning from us.  My encouragement for us as parents would be to teach our kids the right things, not just by what we say, but also by what we do.  In this culture of major discontent, materialism, and selfish attitudes, my encouragement is to go against the cultural trend and show kids how to be thankful.  Let’s strive to be the example that they can follow in order to become, or continue to be, thankful kids.  This will help them to grow into thankful adults.  I was just teaching the other week about this, and I was amazed at how many kids are struggling with discontentment despite their rather plush lives by global standards.  Because of this, I showed them a video that I hope struck a chord with them as I am hoping it will with you.  Think about the many conveniences that we enjoy in our culture.  Then when we look at those living in third world countries, we have very little reason to be discontent.  The video below was made by waterislife.com, and is addressing the problem of clean water for the world.

“Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.  Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  Ephesians 5:18b-20
