The other day I happened to see the following teaser for an upcoming sermon series on another church’s website:
The subtitle of that slide is very telling. “Humanity’s basic problem is that we have allowed God to be everywhere but on his throne.” There is absolutely no doubt that God is on the throne of this world. The point that we need to be constantly personally evaluating: Is God still on the throne of our lives?
One of my favorite authors, Jeff Iorg, has shared a series of prayers that he prays periodically to help him keep all of this straight. Here are those prayers:
Lord, I am expendable. Another day or another decade, whatever pleases you.
Lord, I serve at your pleasure. Use me, or not, whatever pleases you.
Lord, your kingdom matters. Mine doesn’t. Advance your cause, whatever that means for me.
Lord, you are God, I am not. Help me keep that straight today.
Do whatever it takes to put God in control of every aspect of your life.
