“Give thanks with a grateful heart. Give thanks to the Holy One. Give thanks because He’s given Jesus Christ, his son.” This time of year, Don Moen’s song, “Give Thanks,” always resurfaces in my mind. We have so many things for which to be thankful. I always try to take time the week of Thanksgiving to reflect and give thanks to God for all of his blessings. I look forward to the time spent with family and the delicious food, but I don’t want to miss this opportunity to give thanks. I have parents that love me and showed me the ways of Jesus. I have a wife that loves me despite my many flaws. We have a wonderful daughter that has brought much joy and excitement into our home. The rest of our family is always there for us at a moment’s notice. God continues to provide and shower us with more than we deserve in so many ways. As much has he has blessed us and provided for us, the greatest blessing we could ever receive is Jesus. How do you thank God for sending his one and only Son to die for us? I cannot begin to fathom the agony of God in that moment, but I am grateful from the bottom of my heart, and it gives purpose and focus to life.
“Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.”
