Today Dan Overmeyer forwarded to many of us a devotional from Dr. David Jeremiah. Dr. Jeremiah cited this Scripture:
My soul melts from heaviness; strengthen me according to Your word.
I am absolutely sure that all of us face points in our lives where our “soul melts from heaviness.” We cry out to God for strength. There are times when our personal hurts combined with the hurts that others are facing can really weigh us down. We can find ourselves fighting some major battles with discouragement and disappointment. That’s the time to dig deeply into God’s Word and find major strength.
Here are some more of Dr. Jeremiah’s comments:
“Here is a helpful way to think about the psalmist’s words in Psalm 119:28: “strengthen me according to Your word.” The Word of God contains provisions and protections for the one who lives by it. The Bible tells us what is true about God—the provisions He has made for our well-being and the protection He offers those who dwell in Christ. Therefore, when we face times of weakness in life, we can be strengthened by reminding ourselves of the promises, provisions, and protections found in His Word (2 Peter 1:4). Like the psalmist, we can be strengthened according to God’s Word.”
When we are weak, he is strong – and his Word will give us the insight, perspective, and strength that we need to persevere.
