The other night in our Small Group, I got a couple of quotes to add to my collection. As I was looking through the file, I realized how some of the quotes I have collected over the years have truly served to guide my life. I will share just a few with you here.
“No amount of activity for the King can make
up for a lack of time spent with the King.”
Hopefully, that one speaks for itself. There is nothing that takes the place of being strong in prayer in every part of our lives.
“God can do more in 3 seconds than we can do in 30 years.”
Jim Cymbala, Pastor at the Brooklyn Tabernacle, reminds us of that fact in his book, “Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire. Again, a reminder of our complete reliance upon God.
I also appreciate a quote from John Wesley which is think is absolutely true. Not to contradict Wesley, but I would also suggest that if the conditions are met, the world could be changed with fewer than 300 men –
“If I had 300 men who feared nothing but God, hated nothing
but sin, and were determined to know nothing among men but Jesus Christ
and him crucified, I would set the world on fire.”
On to the Small Group Quotes. The first from Donna Steinhauser’s college roommate, Edwina Perkins. She is an acquisitions editor and she tells authors this great bit of wisdom:
“Show don’t tell.”
As we were talking about our response to trials and difficulties in our lives, Donna Steinhauser was addressing our need to take our concerns to the Lord first. Here’s her quote:
“Do you run to the phone or do you run to the Throne?”
Perhaps you have some quotes that have shaped and guided your life. Please feel free to share those with all of us in the comments section.
