It's only Wednesday. That's it. Camp has only been going on since Sunday evening. That's a period of about not even 72 hours yet. I find myself physically dragging, mentally distracted, and my voice has started to weaken (which considering I'm leading worship for the week you can imagine it's pretty inconvienient for my voice to be acting up!). I doubt anyone here at the camp has gotten more than 6 hours of sleep any night so far. When I look around I see tired faces and slothful movements. All visual indications would say that most of us are ready to go home and get back to normalcy.
That's the funny part, nothing could be farther from the truth.
God has a funny way of working in ways that seem contradictory to man. The theme for the camp week is 'Fusion' and we're studying out the book of Colossians. Last night the camp speaker, Devin, highlighted God's pattern of using things in ways we would never expect them to be used. Colossians 1:19-20 reads: "For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross." Making peace, through Christ's blood. I daresay most of us don't associate the shedding of blood with peace!
And yet... God manages to throw a curveball.
So when I mention being physically fatigued, mentally distracted, and bordering on illness; when I mention that both the staff and the students alike here are definitely not getting a full night's rest; when I mention students who look tired and slow to move; I present a scene with far more depth than you would imagine initially. I can promise you everyone here is DEFINITELY tired and at times uncomfortable... but we wouldn't have it any other way. Because beyond the obvious when I look around I see something amazing, something the world I believe presents as impossible. I see teenagers being willing to put their personal comfort aside for greater things. I see teenagers coming together and taking care of each other in ways that would astonish many people. I see a harmony and an atmosphere here that's going to make it REALLY hard to leave come friday.
No matter how much I hear my bed calling. :-P
I love camp.
