Several years ago I developed a dream in my heart about Men's Ministry for Madison Christian Church. My concern was about developing the next generation of leadership. Also, I truly believe that if you get the man - the husband and father - involved in the church, most of the time you get the entire family. I dreamed of the Fireside Room full of men on a Saturday morning - learning, growing, and having rich fellowship. So, I put together a breakfast meeting, laid the idea out before a group of guys, and we launched. I worked really hard at this for two years, and we never got beyond a relative handful of guys. This was not necessarily a failure, but it certainly was falling short of the dream of exciting Men's Ministry.
Then, a little over a year ago, John Connett, David Graham, and Russ Herr met with me and said, "Let us give this Men's Ministry thing a go." They said they wanted to take the leadership of this ministry off my plate. Sometimes you need to release ministry to others, and I realized that this was a good time for that. It was the best release of ministry I have ever been part of. Man, did these three guys take the ball and run with it. This past Saturday I stood in the corner of the room with tears coming into my eyes as I saw the dream EXCEEDED. At this most recent Madison Men's Ministry meeting, there was not a single seat left in the Fireside Room. The room was truly full of men, learning, growing, having fellowship - not to mention eating some exceptional food.
I cannot say enough about the level of dynamic, committed leadership that John Connett, David Graham, and Russ Herr have brought to the Madison Men's Ministry. I am so proud of them!! As you would expect, they have expanded the core of leadership of this ministry to now include others. John, David, and Russ - great job! You have my thanks, lots of appreciative men, and you are doing a great work for God's Kingdom.
